Atmosic™ Technologies, an innovator of ultra-low-power wireless technology for the Internet of Things (IoT), and Energous Corporation, a developer of WattUp wireless charging technology, jointly announced today that the two parties have achieved the industry’s first radio frequency (RF) energy harvesting technology interoperability. This interoperability combines the Atmosic M3 series chipset (energy harvesting technology that can capture radio frequency power) and Energous’s radio frequency (RF)-based WattUp wireless charging technology to jointly create a broad market for wireless charging technology within a two-meter distance. A variety of connectivity solutions are available for retail, industrial and consumer applications.
Atmosic and Energous are both members of the AirFuel Alliance®. The AirFuel Alliance is a global alliance of companies in the wireless charging industry dedicated to realizing a world where charging can be done without connection. Dr. Sanjay Gupta, President and Chairman of the Alliance, said: “The advancement of wireless charging technology and the development of interoperability and infrastructure required to promote the widespread adoption of this technology require close collaboration between alliance members. Both Energous and Atmosic These companies work together to bring cutting-edge products to the market. This partnership fully reflects the spirit of the alliance. We look forward to the members of AirFuel to continue to pave the way for the innovation and development of the industry.”
Neeraj Sahejpal, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Business Development of Energous, said: “Atmosic’s vision of “permanent battery life” fits very well with Energous’s vision of wireless charging 2.0 technology. We are very pleased that the technologies of both parties can be combined to achieve interoperability and promote two meters. The development of long-distance charging technology. Energous’s WattUp wireless charging technology is very suitable for the growing retail, industrial, consumer and IoT sensor market applications, and can provide more power stably and reliably.”
Atmosic’s innovative ultra-low power consumption radio frequency, radio frequency wake-up and controlled energy harvesting technology can enable the M3 series chips based on the Bluetooth 5 standard to achieve permanent battery life, and even eliminate the need for batteries when the device is running in certain applications. Permanent battery life helps reduce the maintenance time and total cost of ownership (TCO) of connected devices, and can also reduce the environmental hazards of waste batteries. Atmosic’s controlled energy harvesting technology can capture energy from a variety of sources, including photovoltaic, thermal or mechanical energy.
Srinivas Pattamatta, vice president of marketing and business development at Atmosic, said: “Energous has always been an industry leader leading the development of next-generation wireless charging technology. Energous and Atmosic have a similar vision to reduce the reliance of equipment on batteries. We hope that Atmosic can be equipped with radio frequency. The combination of advanced SoC with energy harvesting and Energous’s WattUp wireless charging technology opens up new possibilities for various IoT applications that require wireless charging within a distance of two meters.”
The radio frequency (RF) principle based on Energous WattUp wireless charging technology provides many conveniences for wireless charging technology development, including small-sized products and devices that can be designed without a flat surface. In September 2020, Energous received a Class II license issued by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to replace the MS-550 FCC Grant at the time, thereby extending the charging distance to 1 meter.
