Since 2010, TI has established R&D centers in Shanghai, Shenzhen and Beijing to develop innovative analog and embedded processing products for the Chinese and global markets.

“In 2010, we formed a relatively large-scale analog R&D team, including audio, motor drive and backlight.” TI product line manager Forest introduced the development history of China’s R&D team, “In 2012, we We started a large-scale expansion in Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenzhen, and we have established R&D teams for microprocessors, power supplies, signal chains and other products, which basically cover all major business areas of Texas Instruments.”

The R&D teams located in Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen understand the Chinese market and local needs. Ben, a TI product test engineer and a member of the global technical expert group, mentioned that “TI China’s embedded processor product line MSP430 team was established in 2011. Currently, it covers different functions, from design, verification, marketing, engineering to application.”

The TI China R&D team continuously optimizes product design, power consumption, size and performance to help customers solve difficult design challenges and launch competitive new products quickly.

“A power chip defined by our R&D center has shipped more than 1 billion pieces worldwide in less than three years since it was introduced to the market. From a technical point of view, we are in power density, low noise, low static The current and low cost are in the leading position in the industry.” Forest said.

“We are a global collaboration, starting from the product definition stage. We have extensive contacts with domestic and international customers, and have mastered global technology and market trends.” Forest said of TI’s global collaboration, “In the product’s In the development stage, we share Texas Instruments’ powerful and leading IP in all aspects of production, packaging, design, testing, etc. In the product promotion stage, we work with customers around the world and our technical support staff to help automotive, industrial, consumer, communications , computing and other fields to design better and better products.”

“My job is to be responsible for the quality of the product. Make the product meet the parameters specified in the data sheet not only temporarily but throughout its life cycle,” Ben, from the perspective of a TI engineer, described his strict quality requirements.

Perfect mechanism, ideal platform

The team led by Jian, TI product design manager and member of the global technical expert group, is the only team within TI for medium and low voltage boost converters. “We also provide IP to other teams around the world that use medium and low voltage boost converters. We don’t just serve domestic customers, we serve global customers.”

“TI has a lot of top technical talent around the world. When we have new employees joining TI, there is a huge training program to help them grow. These training programs are not only for recent graduates, but also for those who are already in the field. A lot of experienced people,” Ben said. “In addition, TI has a rotation program for many new employees. In this project, they can rotate to different functional teams. For example, an engineer who joins a test engineering team may be designing Rotate within a team or application team, or go to a packaging and test facility. By the time they return to their original roles, such as test engineering, they have had a wider range of experience.

At present, the products designed and developed by the TI R&D center are distributed in various types of electronic systems, including China’s new infrastructure market, covering 5G base station construction, big data centers, industrial Internet, artificial intelligence (AI), intercity high-speed railways and intercity rail transit , seven areas of UHV.
